# LevelUp > LevelUp turns a student's own notes into a personal study system. Students add notes from photos, PDFs or pasted text, check the text, and build a study pack (summary, key concepts, flashcards and a quiz) grounded only in their notes, take quizzes with short answers checked by AI, ask a voice tutor that only uses their notes, practice conversations in a language they are learning, review flashcards with spaced repetition, and follow their streak, retention and a weekly insight. It runs on the web, Android and iOS. LevelUp is for students aged 16 and over. Anyone can try it as a guest with no sign-up, using the Sample Library of ready-made subjects. A free account keeps your subjects across devices. ## Walkthroughs - [A quick tour of LevelUp](/how-to/tour): for everyone, 1:52 - [Review your flashcards](/how-to/reviews): for students, 0:25 - [Build a study pack](/how-to/study-pack): for students, 0:28 - [Take a quiz](/how-to/quiz): for students, 0:32 - [Ask the tutor](/how-to/tutor): for everyone, 0:32 - [Practice a conversation](/how-to/practice): for language learners, 0:31 - [Track your progress](/how-to/progress): for students, 0:20 - [Explore the Sample Library](/how-to/sample-library): for guests, 0:21 - [Create a subject](/how-to/subjects): for students, 0:24 - [Add notes from photos or a PDF](/how-to/photos-and-pdfs): for students, 0:35 - [Paste and save your notes](/how-to/paste-text): for students, 0:25 - [Save your progress](/how-to/account): for guests, 0:17 ## A quick tour of LevelUp For everyone. Watch it at /how-to/tour. - Welcome: LevelUp turns your own notes into a personal study system. Add notes from a photo, a PDF or pasted text, and get a summary, flashcards and a quiz built from them. - Library: The Library lists your own subjects and the Sample Library: ready-made subjects anyone can open, including Biology, US History and a beginner Spanish course. - New subject: Choose New subject, give it a name and select Create subject. Make one for each class or topic. - Add notes: Add notes by taking a photo, choosing photos (up to 10 pages), uploading a PDF (up to 30 pages with selectable text) or pasting text (up to 20,000 characters). On phones, photos are read on the device; on the web, a free account is needed for photos. - Review: Before anything is saved, check the text that was read and fix any mistakes. Everything LevelUp builds for a source comes only from this text. Select Save when it looks right. - Study pack: On a saved source, select Build study pack. LevelUp writes a short and a detailed summary, the key concepts, 10 to 30 flashcards and a quiz, using only your notes. The summary appears first, then the flashcards and quiz. You can build up to 5 study packs a day. - Citations: Each key concept, flashcard and quiz question shows the section of your notes it came from. Select it to read that part of your notes. The quiz mixes multiple-choice and short-answer questions, each with an explanation. - Short answers: Write short answers in your own words. LevelUp checks them against the answer key and your notes, marks them correct, partly correct or not quite, and says in one sentence what was right or missing. You can have up to 100 answers checked a day (20 as a guest). If an answer can't be checked, compare it with the model answer and mark it yourself. - Tutor: The tutor answers using only your notes, at the level you choose: Simple, Standard or Detailed. It may end with a quick question to check you understood. You can ask up to 50 questions a day (10 as a guest). - Reviewing: In a review, read the front of the card and try to recall the answer, then select Show answer. Rate how well you knew it: Again, Hard, Good or Easy. Each button shows when you would see the card next. LevelUp uses the FSRS algorithm, so well-known cards come back less often and forgotten ones come back soon. Keyboard: Space to reveal, 1 to 4 to rate. - Account: Guests can keep their subjects by adding an email on the Profile page and confirming that they are 16 or older. LevelUp sends a confirmation link; after confirming, the guest's subjects stay with the new account. - Recap: In short: start as a guest, create a subject for each class, add notes from photos, PDFs or pasted text, check the text, build a study pack, take its quiz and turn mistakes into flashcards, ask the tutor to explain anything, review your flashcards when they are due, and save your progress with a free account. ## Review your flashcards For students. Watch it at /how-to/reviews. - Review: The Review tab shows how many cards are due today across all your subjects, split into cards to review and new cards (up to 20 new a day), with a count per subject. Select Start review to begin. - Offline: On Android and iOS, reviews work without a connection. Reviews are saved on your device and upload automatically when you are back online; if you review the same card on two devices, the most recent review wins. ## Build a study pack For students. Watch it at /how-to/study-pack. - Edit: You can edit or delete any flashcard or question, and add your own. Rebuilding a study pack replaces the generated parts but keeps the flashcards you wrote yourself. ## Take a quiz For students. Watch it at /how-to/quiz. - Quiz: On a study pack, select Take quiz to answer its questions one at a time. Multiple-choice answers are marked straight away and show the right answer, an explanation and the section of your notes it comes from. Keyboard: 1 to 4 to choose, Enter to check. - Results: At the end you see your score (partly correct answers count for half), the key concepts behind the questions you missed, and your mistakes with their answers. Select Turn mistakes into flashcards to add them to your reviews. ## Ask the tutor For everyone. Watch it at /how-to/tutor. - Explain it to me: Select Explain it to me on any flashcard, key concept or quiz question you got wrong, or Ask the tutor on a subject. The tutor knows what you were looking at, including your answer to a quiz question. - Tutor: The tutor answers using only your notes, at the level you choose: Simple, Standard or Detailed. It may end with a quick question to check you understood. You can ask up to 50 questions a day (10 as a guest). - Voice: Ask by voice with the microphone button, where your device or browser supports speech (Chrome and Edge on the web). Your question is sent when you stop talking, and the answer is read aloud. If your notes don't cover a question, the tutor says so and labels any general explanation "Not from your notes". ## Practice a conversation For language learners. Watch it at /how-to/practice. - Conversation practice: On a language subject, select Practice. Choose a scenario (ordering food, a job interview, small talk or a travel problem) and your level, then select Start conversation. Your partner speaks first. - Talk: Speak or type in the language. Your partner replies at your level, with an English translation, and after each of your messages shows gentle corrections and a more natural way to say it. Translations, corrections and reading aloud can each be turned off. You can have up to 60 turns a day (10 as a guest). - Summary: Select End to see how it went: your mistakes to learn from and new words from the conversation. Choose words and add them as flashcards. From the Sample Library, they go into your own vocabulary subject for that language. ## Track your progress For students. Watch it at /how-to/progress. - Progress: The Progress tab shows your streak (days in a row with at least one review), cards due today, retention (the share of learned cards you remembered over the last 30 days), reviews and quizzes this week, and time studied per subject over the last 7 days. Once a week, LevelUp writes a short insight: what's going well, your weakest concepts and what to review next. - Reminders: Set a daily review reminder on the Profile page. On Android and iOS you get a notification at that time on days when cards are due, worked out on your phone so it works offline. On the web, a banner on the Library shows how many cards are ready when you open LevelUp. ## Explore the Sample Library For guests. Watch it at /how-to/sample-library. - Start: On the welcome screen, choose "Start studying, no account needed" to look around as a guest. There is nothing to fill in. - Library: The Library lists your own subjects and the Sample Library: ready-made subjects anyone can open, including Biology, US History and a beginner Spanish course. - Sample: Sample subjects are read-only, so you can explore them without changing anything. Language subjects show the language and your level. ## Create a subject For students. Watch it at /how-to/subjects. - New subject: Choose New subject, give it a name and select Create subject. Make one for each class or topic. - New subject: Choose New subject, give it a name, and turn on "This is a language I'm learning" to set the language and your level: beginner, intermediate or advanced. - Subject: A new subject opens straight away. If a later page fails, the pages already read are kept. - PDFs: A PDF is uploaded and its selectable text is read. Scanned PDFs have no text to read, so add those pages as photos instead. - Review: Before anything is saved, check the text that was read and fix any mistakes. Everything LevelUp builds for a source comes only from this text. Select Save when it looks right. ## Paste and save your notes For students. Watch it at /how-to/paste-text. - Add notes: Add notes by taking a photo, choosing photos (up to 10 pages), uploading a PDF (up to 30 pages with selectable text) or pasting text (up to 20,000 characters). A counter shows how much you have used. Select Save to store it in sections. - Sections: Saved notes are split into sections of a few hundred words, keeping paragraphs together, so anything built from them can point back to the exact place. ## Save your progress For guests. Watch it at /how-to/account. - Account: Guests can keep their subjects by adding an email on the Profile page and confirming that they are 16 or older. LevelUp sends a confirmation link; after confirming, the guest's subjects stay with the new account. - Sign in: Next time, sign in with your email and password, or ask for a one-time sign-in link by email. ## Limits - Photos: up to 10 pages per source, resized to 2000 pixels on the long edge before upload. Answers can be read aloud everywhere. - Weekly insight: written once a week (weeks start on Monday) from your reviews and quizzes, with a free account or as a guest. - Reminders: notifications on Android and iOS at your chosen time on days when cards are due; a banner in the app on the web. - Reviews: scheduled with the FSRS algorithm (90% target retention). Up to 20 new cards a day join the review queue. Reviews work offline on Android and iOS and sync when back online. ## Links - [Start studying](/welcome) - [How LevelUp works](/how-to)
